Rishi Sunak has become British prime minister after being asked to form a government by King Charles III.
In his first speech as PM, Sunak promised to unite the nation “facing a profound economic crisis”, a media reports said.
As the only candidate to gain enough Tory support, Sunak won the Conservative Party leadership race on Monday and inherits a nation in crisis.
The 42-year-old will be the UK’s first prime minister of colour and the first Hindu to lead the country.
A former chancellor with enormous personal wealth, he has met with King Charles to form his government.
Sunak is expected to immediately begin appointing a Cabinet on Tuesday and getting to grips with an economic crisis that has left millions of Britons struggling to afford food and energy bills.
